Tuesday, Sept. 30, is Orange Shirt Day.
According to www.OrangeShirtDay.org, events on Sept. 30 are meant to “commemorate the residential school experience, to witness and honor the healing journey of the survivors and their families, and to commit to the ongoing process of reconciliation.”
Specific to the Nung’wu, we wear orange shirts to honor our pee’soatseng (children) lost to the Panguitch Boarding School. On Tuesday, please wear orange and take time to remember all those that suffered at the hands of Indian boarding schools no matter the location.
There will be a social media post on Tuesday where we are inviting community members to post pictures of yourself or family members wearing orange in recognition of the day.
