OUR STORIES MATTER
Stories have always been at the heart of who we are as Native people. They carry our teachings, our humor, our resilience, and our truth. That’s why we’re inviting Native youth to join our book club – a space where we can read, learn, and talk together about the things that matter most.
The books we’ve chosen for October are: “Ancestor Approved,” “Firekeeper’s Daughter,” and “My Powerful Hair,” which were written by Native authors who understand the experiences of our communities because they come from them. These stories speak honestly about the challenges Native youth face today such as bullying, trauma, identity, family, and belonging, but they also lift up our strength, our culture, and our power to heal.
Reading these books isn’t just about enjoying a good story. It’s about seeing ourselves in the pages. It’s about knowing we’re not alone. It’s about having conversations that matter with each other and within our families. This book club is a safe space to explore hard topics, celebrate who we are, and grow together. So whether you’re a young person looking for connection or a parent wanting to support your child’s growth, come read with us – because our stories matter, and when we read together, we rise together.
