Reading nutrition labels on your canned or packaged food can be a game-changer for your health!

• Start by checking the serving size at the top – all the information provided on the nutrition label is based on this amount.
• Look at the calories per serving to manage your intake. Caloric intake is based on a variety of factors, including age, weight, height, and activity level, but on average, women need about 1,600-2,400 calories per day, and men need 2,000-3,000 calories (for a calorie calculator, click here).
• Pay attention to % Daily Value (%DV). The bottom of the label will say how many daily calories the %DV is based on; a %DV of 5% or less is low, 20% or more is high. Focus on nutrients like fiber, vitamins, and minerals. Limit saturated fat, sodium, and added sugars.

• Remember, portion sizes matter – measure out servings to stay on track!
