CRISIS ASSISTANCE

Crisis assistance through the Puow’wan Program, Family Services Department, is available to enrolled Tribal members experiencing significant hardship. According to the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) and Tribal guidelines, individuals and families may receive emergency assistance – such as food or hygiene products – once every six months, provided the crisis qualifies under approved circumstances and supplies are available. Assistance is not guaranteed due to very limited funding, but the Family Services Department will make every effort to support families in urgent need.

To access services, individuals must complete a Crisis Assistance Application, which helps determine eligibility based on current policies, residency, and need. All applicants must also consent to a release of information for verification with the Utah Department of Workforce Services, as emergency help may only be offered up to two times per year (once every six months).

We strongly encourage members to also explore resources available through their Band, if applicable, as well as local community resources as part of their overall support plan. The Family Services Department is committed to working on behalf of our Tribal members to provide assistance to the best of our ability, using the resources we have within our capacity. If you are currently experiencing a crisis and need assistance, please feel free to reach out to Stacy Halladay at shalladay@pitu.gov or Gail Kite at gkite@pitu.gov, or call 435-586-1112.
