Rabbitbrush is a multi-branched deciduous shrub that boasts many bright golden-yellow flowers in the late summer to mid-fall. Pine nut picking season is traditionally identified by the appearance of the bright yellow flowers on the plant.

Rabbit brush was used as traditional chewing gum, as well as used for making dolls referred to as Skoomp’um dolls (typically made by the Shivwits Band of Paiutes). Rabbitbrush can also be used to smudge the home in very special cases.

As always please remember to have an experienced traditional plant knowledge holder with you when looking to collect plants.
