Mark your calendars for the Ute Bear Dance demonstration on Thursday, April 23!
Bear Dance is a traditional annual event for the Noochu (Ute) people, with origins that predate contact with Western explorers.
This interactive demonstration – offered by members of the Ute Indian Tribe of the Uintah & Ouray Reservation in Fort Duchesne, Utah – will introduce participants to the fundamentals of the dance, including protocols and cultural significance.
Participants are encouraged to bring shawls, comfortable shoes, ribbon skirts, and an umbrella.
This event is presented by the PITU Elders Department, the Puow’wan Program, and the Cultural Department.
